My koi were massacred! (Anyone looking to put some koi/goldfish up for adoption?) I built my pond 3 ft deep around the edges to deter the buggers, but somehow they reached in .. unless they can swim!! Anyone know?

The conventional wisdom is that raccoons can swim, and raccoons can fish, but they can't swim and fish at the same time.
I'm sorry to hear you lost your fish. Why do you think it was raccoons? Are you sure it wasn't herons, or even worse, otters?

(My apologies, but I don't seem to be able to create a new post for some reason. Instead I am replying to the last thread.)
I have two, foot-long koi that I would like to put up for adoption. I am in Fall City, Washington. My husband purchased two cute little koi and put them into our 55 gallon saltwater aquarium (which we are obviously using as a freshwater tank instead). Both koi are in good health and are eating Hikari koi food. One koi is mostly white with an orange spot covering the head. The other koi is white with black and orange spots covering much of its body. (I now know that I cannot send my husband to the fish store unaccompanied!)
Please call 425-222-7627, or email eileen@carrel.org if you have a pond large enough to care for these two koi. I would like to give them both to a knowledgeable koi owner who can properly care for them. I have plenty of property, and a smallish outdoor pond myself; however, I am in a rural area and I know they would immediately be eaten by one of the several koi-loving predators that regularly visit our property. |
